APLS Approach To Seriously Ill Child
Managing the unwell child can be a frightening experience for everyone involved. As doctors become more involved in delivery of care in Clinics & Emergency Units, it is more likely that they will come across a child who is sicker than those attending the surgery. Paediatric resuscitation is deemed difficult as there are numerous calculations involved and holistic approach of the patient need to be conducted.
This course will help the doctors and the rest of the team to be prepared for this situation – to identify the unwell infant or toddler, to know general management principles and some specific treatment pathways for common emergencies and to take steps to try and prevent children becoming critically ill wherever possible.
In this topic, I can’t promise to make you an expert in handling ill paediatric patients, instead I have summarised few important steps that can be taken systematically and drugs dosage which may be beneficial while attending them, and ensuring you do not miss any life threatening condition.
